Hey all - some time ago I got to be a part of a very cool thing called the Millennial Trains Project (supporting millennial change makers in community-based projects). One of my Cohort mates was Courtney Smith (the only other Michigander) who's project was centered around youth homelessness. FASTFORWARD 4 years and Courtney is the founder of Detroit Phoenix Center - which does amazing work in the Detroit youth community.Tonight I'll be sleeping on the floor as a part of the "One Night Without a Bed" campaign. If you're able to participate and/or are willing to donate on this #GivingTuesday, this is certainly a worthy cause.

We are launching our One Night Without A Bed campaign on December 1st with a live-streamed event on Facebook and challenging people to give up their beds for One Night in December in solidarity with the 4.2 million young people around the world who experience homelessness each year. The fundraising campaign will end on December 31st.
Our goal is to raise awareness on the youth homelessness crisis and raise funds so that we may continue to provide young people with critical resources, safety, and support during a time where our services are needed now more than ever.
Participants can sleep in a tent, a car, the couch—anywhere but a bed. Make themselves uncomfortable for One Night, challenge their friends to do the same, and spread the word so that a young person can have a warm place to sleep at night and access to the resources that they need to live out their full potential.
Our virtual sleepout cannot compare to the grim realities that youth experiencing homelessness face every day. This is not a simulation— it is a call to action. This is about basic human rights, accountability, and service. Together, we can send a message to these young people — who have so often been ignored — that we care and continue to be committed to equity and justice.
