Background

It all began with a story about 91 year old Eileen Greene, who while quarantined during the recent pandemic, may have set a world record for a 90+ year old for consecutive rallies playing ping pong, hitting 1,246 CONSECUTIVE hits, over 13 minutes and 56 seconds of non-stop play! Inspired by this amazing achievement and seeing first hand how playing ping pong consistently has helped Eileen stay active with her sons and grandkids for years, inspired us to learn more, this ABC News story and, subsequently, Ping Pong for Good.
A “Ping Pong Moment”
Given the circumstances created by the pandemic and the current enthusiasm for playing ping pong as a means of exercise and fun, there’s never been a time when people could benefit more from playing this simple game. Unlike most sports, it can be played by young and old, across generations and skill levels.

In fact, the world seems to be having a “ping pong moment.”

Ping Pong is the World’s Best Brain Game

There has been growing evidence about ping pong as physical therapy to treat and slow down the progression of Parkinson's and Alzeimer's. For example,Ping Pong Parkinson's has been documenting successful outcomes, both physical and social, since 2017. In addition, a recent study announced in May of 2020 at the annual meeting of the American Association of Neurology was also promising as detailed in this press release.

An Opportunity for Impact (while increasing interest in the sport)
There are a series of factors creating an extraordinary opportunity that not only raises the profile of ping pong as both leisure activity and a sport, but could also benefit millions with respect to brain health.

Imagine doing what Movember did in creating a movement and raising millions of dollars for men’s health, but for brain health!
PPFG will first seize this moment to encourage people of all ages to play ping pong and raise awareness of its many benefits. This would increase the quality of life for millions who adopt ping pong not only as a fun and social activity, but also as a benefit to their mental health and physical health.

PPFG will also raise awareness of ping pong as a form of exercise and physical therapy for brain health and to treat and slow down the progression of degenerative brain diseases, including Parkinson and Alzheimers. This increased awareness will help support more research studies about the benefits of playing ping pong on the brain. It will also provide a powerful platform for fundraising to support the millions of people suffering with degenerative brain diseases.
We also want to make ping pong more accessible to all , even when there is limited space and/or budget. PPFG will provide discounts from our partners as well as sponsorships and grants for PPFG Care Kits to older people and the organizations that serve them and to families and schools in need.
