India has one of the world's largest populations of blind children, and many of them have conditions that are fully treatable, such as congenital cataracts. Most never receive care. Project Prakash is changing that.

Founded in 2005 by MIT neuroscientist Professor Pawan Sinha, Project Prakash runs screening camps in remote villages across north-central India. We identify children with treatable blindness and give them sight-restoring surgery free of cost, in partnership with Dr. Shroff's Charity Eye Hospital in Delhi. Beyond surgery, we support Prakash children with education, vocational training and long-term care.

Our impact so far:

62,000+ children screened
500+ life-changing surgeries

Every child we treat also helps answer a fundamental question: how does the brain learn to see? Our research with MIT and partners has reshaped scientific understanding of brain plasticity. It shows that the brain can learn to see even after years of blindness, with implications for neuroscience, pediatric ophthalmology and treatment worldwide.

We call this our double impact: restoring sight and advancing science, together.

Your gift funds screenings, surgeries, eyeglasses and ongoing support for children and their families.
