When my daughter was born, my sister-in-law gave us a plaque that said "Strong Women. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them."

That simple, kind gesture had an impact. I spent time thinking about what that really meant. And what it would mean specifically for me and my daughter.

A part of what that means to me is helping others and giving back. I have always told my kids that "everyone has something," meaning that everyone has struggles - whether you know what they are or not. It takes strength to acknowledge them, to persevere, and to ask for help.

Uplift helps women and their children in crisis. 

And now, more than 14 years later, my daughter and I are raising money for Uplift through this virtual campaign and in our community with an online "garage" sale.
