If you were to ask a friend of mine to describe something about me, they would surely say that I have a passion for Handbells and CanStruction.

CanStruction is a food drive competition where teams of designers, architects, & engineering firms, along with school groups, compete to make giant structures out of nothing but cans of food. Using thousands of cans for each structure. The structures are part of an exhibit open to the public at RXR Plaza in Uniondale. After that exhibit, they are dismantled and the cans of food are distributed to local food banks, from there they are donated to local soup kitchens and supper meal programs right here on Long Island. It replenishes food pantries in time for Thanksgiving and helps ease the burden for a lot of our neighbors.

I was at the bank the other day and saw this crazy long line of people outside. When I got closer I saw that there was a truck giving out food. The incredibly long line was from people waiting to get food. There is a huge need right here on Long Island, not just some far-off country. It's our friends and neighbors in our own towns and communities that are struggling. We can help!

I am so excited that this year Long Island reSound Handbell Ensemble is willing to team up with me. We will be building our own structure for this year's competition. I have the design figured out and the plans are almost ready. Our structure will be over 4,000 cans of food. You know how much a can of food costs these days, as a team we need to fundraise about $5,000 to buy all the cans for our structure.

I am reaching out to ask for donations. Every dollar counts and goes totally, 100%, to buying cans of food, nothing else.

The event takes place at the end of October, but there is no time to lose. We need to start getting donations and we need to start buying the cans now. CAN you help with a donation to buy cans? There are links for several ways you can donate. Also, a video of some of our previous structures so you can get an idea of what this is all about.
