Read More Books began with a simple but painful memory: a child pretending to read.

Our founder remembers sitting in third grade, holding open a chapter book, flipping pages to keep up appearances while silently panicking inside. Words blurred on the page. Confidence faded with every turn. And like too many children, he learned to “fake it” rather than ask for help.

That experience stayed with him. Years later, as an education professor and father, he saw the same struggle in his own son. Despite every advantage — a parent who valued education, a home filled with books — reading still felt like a battle. The realization hit hard: if his child was struggling, what about the millions of children with fewer resources, less support, and schools stretched to the breaking point?

That’s when Read More Books (RMB) was born.

At RMB, we believe books are the original “mind-expanding software” — a tool for creativity, confidence, and connection. Yet today, the numbers are alarming: only 31% of fourth graders in the U.S. read at a proficient level, while 40% can’t even read at a basic level. And by third grade, when kids shift from learning to read to reading to learn, falling behind can alter the course of a child’s entire education.

We exist to change that.

Through our weekly virtual book club for grades 1–4, we create joyful reading experiences that children look forward to. Every Sunday, kids log in alongside a parent or coach, guided by a teacher who makes reading social, interactive, and fun. For many families, it’s the first time reading feels less like a chore and more like an adventure.

But RMB is bigger than just a book club. We are building a movement — one that supports parents, empowers educators, and reminds communities that reading is the ultimate life hack. Our vision is bold but simple: a world where every child has access to books, confidence in their abilities, and the chance to fall in love with reading.

RMB isn’t just about literacy. It’s about dignity, equity, and opportunity. Because when a child learns to read, they don’t just unlock books — they unlock their future.
