My son Jamie was diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in 2019, when he was 10 years old. It started as ulcerative colitis and now is considered to be Crohn’s Disease. He has tried dozens of medications and follows a restrictive diet. He deals with the symptoms and management of this disease every day, including daily pills, weekly injections, and monthly infusions. His medications are immunosuppressants, which means he is susceptible to a wide range of other serious infections and diseases. These meds won’t cure his disease. The best we can hope for is remission. To date, Jamie has never achieved lasting remission. Jamie’s story is not unique.
