KerryJo is running for another term on the Minneapolis School Board - At-Large. She has worked tirelessly over the past several years to keep North High School open and to improve all schools and educational opportunities for children in Minneapolis.
KerryJo Felder still eats, breathes, and sleeps the betterment of Minneapolis Public School students. A graduate of the Summatech magnet, who was the 2nd student to double magnet and also partake in the Visual & Performing Arts (VPA) for 2 years, her passion for this work began alongside a large coalition of alumni that saved North High from the brink of closure in 2010. Since then, KerryJo has worked tirelessly in her professional and personal life to advocate for the re-opening of Franklin Middle School, implementing I.B. at Olson Middle and creating strong feeder pathways and implement high-quality curriculum models. She is a proud Minneapolis graduate who remembers what a great public education should look like.
As a proud bonus mom of two children that attend Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS), she has experience. One child attends Franklin Middle School and the other attends North High School. She understands wanting options! She knows the district belongs to its parents and students and has no problem reminding anyone. She will work hard to lift your voice in creating solutions that address local disparities. A longtime convener of parents, students, grassroots community groups, unions, and MPS faculty and administrators- KerryJo possesses the experience and know-how to navigate systems and inspire them to work harder for Minneapolis kids and she has done just that and is excited to do more.
KerryJo attends Wayman AME with her family. She finds joy in delivering food to those in need and has focused on 6+ households since the beginning of the pandemic.
She spends her “free” time with her family and trying to keep a foot in the door of many issues affecting the Northside like the Upper Harbor Terminal, the lightrail, affordable housing, and environmental justice. She also sits on her neighborhood association and Juneteenth boards and directs the Fremont Avenue Parade on Juneteenth.
KerryJo is a MPS parent and visionary who believes the district belongs to its parents and students. She has worked hard to lift the voices of parents and community in creating solutions that address local disparities and make schools you are proud to call your own. From helping to save a school, open a school, start new programs, and fighting for teachers of color, KerryJo has been making positive change for the district for over 10 years and is not done yet!
