The Sempergeist Institute develops trauma-informed creative technologies for veterans and service communities. Through Poewell, our AI-assisted platform for storytelling and image-making, participants work within peer-supported cohorts to give shape to experiences like PTSD, CPTSD, and moral injury — experiences that resist ordinary language.

Trauma frequently shuts down the brain's speech centers while activating threat-detection regions, leaving some of the most significant experiences genuinely beyond words. Standard tools like talk therapy and journaling can feel reductive to those whose experiences resist ordinary narration — often deepening isolation and disengagement from care.

Poewell offers a different path: a non-clinical layer of care that helps participants convert internal emotional states into personal symbols, images, and visual narratives. Working alongside trained veteran facilitators, participants externalize what cannot be spoken into forms that can be held, examined, and shared within a trusted peer cohort — with an emphasis on witnessing over resolution, and connection over performance.
