The George B. Crane Memorial Center is a gem in the heart of the Berkshires located downtown on the west side of Pittsfield, MA.

In 2004, when the SIOGA Club of the Berkshires, which hosted 12-step Alcoholics Anonymous meetings burned down, Pittsfield resident and SIOGA Club member, Doug Malins, got busy finding a new location to rebuild. The George B. Crane Memorial Center (GBCMC) was created with a city grant from Mayor James Ruberto, generous donations from individuals, volunteer labor through the Berkshire County Sheriff's Department, and a common belief that addiction should bear no stigma. The center opened its doors for operation in 2010.

Now in our fifteenth year, GBCMC supports recovery in many ways. Many types of peer recovery groups meet here seven days a week. We also have regular events and classes.

GBCMC is run by a volunteer Board of Directors. We operate by receiving donations from individuals, our groups, partnerships, and grants we apply for.

With an ARPA grant from Mayor Linda Tyer in July 2022, we opened our office so people can stop by to learn about community resources such as recovery meetings, treatment for substance and alcohol use disorder, social services, housing advocacy, and harm reduction. Our Community Liaison will help you make calls, fill out applications, directly link you to services and is here to listen to your needs. Though our ARPA grant ended in July of 2025 we continue to run our program, in part, with generous donations from people like you.

In our first year the Community Liaison had 429 walk-in office visits. As of this update in October 2025, we have received 2,581 walk-in visits. These are community members who have received help with real-time referrals, applications, phone calls and transportation for housing, food, safety, healthcare, dental, behavioral healthcare, employment, income, and education.
