At Smile Big, we all share a common sentiment: this is the organization we wish we had growing up. As LGBTQ+ individuals in the south, we faced isolation and danger on a regular basis. Unfortunately, so many others have experienced the same hurtful and isolating experiences – less than supportive parents, bullying, exclusion, and overwhelming loneliness.

The only difference now is that the world is a more accepting place. However, despite progress, the media and some representatives have decided that we are still the enemy. Their messages of hate are everywhere, and it’s so easy to become overwhelmed…

That’s why we’re working hard to cover the city in smiles with our safe space signs, to show just how wrong their message of hate really is.

When you see one of our signs in a window, know that you are not alone. There is a community of people fighting every day to make the world a more inclusive and accepting place for all. We fight for you because we are you, and we thank you for every single step you take with us on this journey towards a better future for all.
