Amanda began to research for a blog about deaf or hard of hearing dental professionals that are working in the industry and she was surprised at how few articles there were relating to the topic. Through her various searches she realized there’s not enough of us. Us being deaf or hard of hearing dental professionals. The deaf and hard-of-hearing population makes up less than 1% of the professionals working in the dental field.

Challenges in this particular setting include difficulties communicating due to masks, background dental noises, and a lack of deaf awareness. Amanda’s goal is to increase accessibility to oral health care regardless of circumstances.

That Deaf RDH is a scholarship awarded to any deaf or hard-of-hearing person(s) attending an accredited dental hygiene school to help cover supplemental costs such as uniforms, scrubs, loupes, instruments, exam fees, etc.

All proceeds will go towards the non-profit mission and helping DoHH pursue their dental education.
