The median net worth of white households is about 10 times the median net worth of black households.

The median income for black households is a little less than 60% of that of white households.

This racial wealth gap—which was created through an interlocking system of economic exploitation and marginalization including race-based chattel slavery, Jim Crow segregation, exclusion from programs such as the New Deal, the G.I. Bill and more—has deprived Black communities of education, jobs, and income. As a result, a massive gap exists between white and black families. This gap affects not only the general public, but also Black Christian ministries.

The Witness Foundation (TWF) corrects patterns of racial injustice that have deprived Black Christians and communities of material resources by identifying promising Black Christian leaders to be part of a two-year fellowship. They receive $50,000 per year of the fellowship which they can use in virtually any manner they wish as long as it makes their work for racial justice more effective.

Fellows will be part of a cohort that, when fundraising goals are met, will include up to 20 participants. This cohort model will include high-level training by professionals at the top of their field offering skills in fields ranging from law, fundraising, marketing, and mental health.

Our initial cohort of 5 Black Christian racial justice leaders will launch in the beginning of 2021. This smaller pilot group will help us fine tune the fellowship program as we look to scale up to cohorts of 20 fellows.
