Trinity Cathedral stands at the heart of Downtown Pittsburgh as one of the city’s most enduring
landmarks of faith, culture, and civic life. Its story is interwoven with the rise of Pittsburgh itself,
beginning in 1787 on land granted by the Penn family. The Cathedral that stands today was
consecrated in 1872 and has shaped the Pittsburgh skyline ever since, a striking example of
Gothic Revival architecture and a defining presence in the city’s visual identity.

The Cathedral is a living part of Pittsburgh’s cultural fabric. Its soaring nave has welcomed
generations of musicians, artists, and performers whose work has filled the space with creativity
and beauty. Trinity has long opened its doors to the public for concerts, lectures, art
installations, and civic gatherings. For many, it is the first place in the city where the arts meet
sacred space in a way that feels both timeless and welcoming. This is a place where the city’s
stories are celebrated and where new expressions of culture are encouraged to flourish.

Trinity’s commitment to hospitality extends to every person who enters. The Cathedral is
inclusive and affirming, a spiritual home for people from all walks of life. The work and ministry
reaches far beyond worship and includes a walk-in care ministry that provides food, supplies,
and compassionate support to neighbors in need. This response to the needs of the community
reflects the Cathedral’s character and its long-standing role as a steady presence in the center
of our city.

To support Trinity Cathedral is to support a landmark that has shaped Pittsburgh’s past and
continues to shape its present. It is to help preserve a place where history, architecture, culture,
and community come together in a way that is rare and deeply meaningful. The Cathedral
stands ready to continue its work for the next century of Pittsburgh’s story, and its future is
strengthened by those who understand the significance of this extraordinary place.
