Our History:

Wildlife for All is the only national organization dedicated to transforming how wildlife is managed at the state level across the United States.

Our roots trace back to the Southwest Environmental Center (SWEC), a grassroots conservation organization founded in southern New Mexico. For years, SWEC fought to protect wildlife and wild places across the Southwest. But as our work deepened, so did our understanding of a core truth: the biggest threat to wildlife wasn't just habitat loss or conflict with humans—it was an outdated and unjust system of wildlife governance.

We saw that the systems responsible for managing wildlife in most states are deeply flawed—driven by narrow interests, lacking transparency, and failing to represent the broad and diverse public that values wildlife. In 2021, we launched Wildlife for All to meet this challenge head-on. Our mission is to reform state wildlife management so that it reflects democratic values, scientific integrity, and ecological responsibility.

What We Do:

Wildlife for All leads a growing movement to overhaul state wildlife governance nationwide. We work with coalition partners, communities, and policymakers to ensure wildlife management systems are:

Democratic – inclusive of all people, not just special interest groups
Just – guided by equity and fairness for people and communities
Compassionate – rooted in respect for the intrinsic value of all animals
Scientifically Sound – grounded in ecological knowledge and evidence

Our work focuses on five key strategies:
• Legislative advocacy to advance transformative policy change
• Reforming wildlife commissions to be more representative and accountable
• Shifting agency missions to prioritize biodiversity and ecological health
• Securing broad-based and sustainable conservation funding
• Increasing transparency and public participation in decision-making
