Story

Let's rebuild a home for a cherished Black, disabled family in Florida!

We are coming together to raise $20k by the end of the year for Yocheved and Miss Wanda Cohen.
Yocheved is a radiant and deeply cherished mainstay of the trans community who has spent the last decade holding community space for Black/trans/GNC/disabled/working class people across Central Florida, Tennessee, NYC and San Francisco. Miss Wanda Cohen is an elderly woman who enjoys providing excellent child care for up to ten of her beloved grandchildren at a time, even though she lives on a slim SSI check. Her compassionate heart and patience are well known among her community.

Yocheved and Miss Wanda urgently need funds to repair her family’s home in Gainesville, and to keep several disabled natal and chosen family members in crisis afloat. Most of their family members are disabled, and due to abysmal healthcare in Florida, are unable to seek proper care. They have to rebuild their off-the-grid home for what is now the third time due to repeated displacement.

Above: the damage to Miss Wanda's home

Due to the enforced poverty our current system inflicts on disabled people, it is nearly impossible for a family to pull itself up from dirt bottom. Yocheved and Miss Wanda's family are doing their best, and with your help, we can give this generation and the next a better quality of life. We gotta give them all our love—we urge you to rally behind Yocheved and Miss Wanda and help us stack $20k in time for the holidays!
