In our education system, too many children of color face barriers to the instruction they deserve. Black and Latinx children are often in under-resourced schools with few, if any, books that reflect their lives. Without culturally relevant stories, these students miss opportunities to see themselves in their learning, to feel inspired, and to explore the world with joy.

Reading is so much more than a skill—it’s a gateway to identity, growth, and confidence. Research shows that children who read proficiently by third grade are far more likely to succeed in school and beyond. Yet, teachers—those at the heart of change—often lack the resources and support they need to foster this vital connection between students and learning.

Children’s Literacy Initiative (CLI) is on a mission to change that. By partnering with schools, CLI provides teachers with training and tools to create equitable, joyful classrooms where every child is seen, heard, and valued.
