Selma The Musical: The Untold Stories Road to Broadway

Selma the Musical: The Untold Stories is a musical theatre, historical fiction presentation chronicling the story of Selma and the citizens of this unassuming town as they prepare for what is arguably the greatest endeavor of the Civil Rights movement. The quintessential march for voting rights across the Edmund Pettus Bridge that captured the attention of the nation at a time when race tensions and the battle ground for civil rights and equality is at an all-time high is recorded in this compelling book penned by show creator, J.P. Haynes. This score features original music from the rich genres foundational to Black culture such as Gospel, Jazz, and Hip Hop, yet undergird by a time-honored musical theatre presentation in new, ingenious ways. Selma's journey began in 2017

Selma The Musical: The Untold Stories debuted February 2017 with limited resources and even fewer ticket sales. The set was comprised of 1 couch and 1 chair. With the cast performing to a total of roughly 30 - 40 attendees over the course of 3 days, discouragement immediately took root. Due to the lack of resources, the original cast sang Acapella. We walked into opening weekend full of hope but left dejected and uncertain if there was a future for this show. Fearful but having faith in the vision of Selma, the show creator/book writer went back to the drawing board. With a new script, new music and a new cast in tow, Selma was ready for a second go at musical theatre. Conceived & written by J.P. Haynes, since our second stint in 2018, Selma The Musical has sold out venues nationally through 2020 entertaining audiences from 1,000 – 5,000 across the U.S. and in the Bahamas.

Selma The Musical has shown before sold- out audiences as few as 500 and as many as 5,000+. Having performed as far South as Alabama and as Far East as New York, Selma The Musical: The Untold Stories has won the hearts of audiences nationwide! Entering 2020, on the incline of their most successful touring season, the award-winning musical was crippled like many Broadway, Off-Broadway & live theatre productions by the Covid-19 pandemic. Taking a 3-year hiatus became inevitable. However, now with a new script, all-new music and a new cast, this soul-stirring musical theatre experience is gearing up for a brand new audience. We're gearing up for you! Selma connects with diverse audiences of various ages, races and socioeconomic backgrounds. Selma The Musical is timely and in a particular divisive society, it couldn't be more relevant and needed right now!
