Pen + Napkin is a 501c3 approved California Non-Profit design community that furnishes and decorates homes for families and individuals transitioning out of homelessness. With the help of local designers we are able to give back to our communities by helping those in need.
Blue Stocking Interiors is designing and furnishing a new Oxford House in Topeka, Kansas. These houses are a community-based approach to addiction recovery, which provides an independent, supportive, and sober living environment. There are 3,373 Oxford houses in the United States, with a total of 27,658 beds. Topeka currently has 151 beds for men and 51 for women.
Oxford House, Inc. is a network of self-run, self-supported recovery houses. It is not part of Alcoholics Anonymous or any other group, but its members rely on AA and similar self-help programs for additional outside support. The first Oxford House was established in 1975 in Silver Spring, Maryland. From the beginning, the group rejected ownership of any property and continues to rent – not purchase – single-family houses in good neighborhoods to establish new Oxford Houses. Kansas currently has 166 Oxford Houses. Topeka, Kansas has 26 house in total, 151 beds for men and 51 beds for women. There is no time limit on how long you can stay, but if you stay in an Oxford House for a year to 18 months you have an 85% chance of staying sober. The newest house in Topeka, called “Bellatrix,” will be a home for eight women, including established residents from other houses as well as those newly recovering.
