The puppies now have names!

Rogue was the first to venture on his own. Fearless!

Hope is very independent. She leads the pack!

Marco, as in Marco Polo, was named by Dave, who tirelessly transports fur babies for Underhound Railroad. Marco is always found in Momma's clutch when she lies down.

Angel was the first to find her voice and tried to sing like an angel.

Chance is named in honor of all the good people giving this little family a chance at life!

May 7 Video Update

These little goblins are on the move and finding their voices . I have names for 3 little puppers and will officially announce all 5 hopefully by this weekend. They are all very cuddly, comfortable being held , playful and quite plump! We will be introducing soft food soon!

The Background

Underhound Railroad received a plea for help to intake a stray mom and her newborn puppies that were found living in a dirt hole under a shed. Our heartstrings pulled and a call to action was made to ensure this family would be rescued. With a network of dog lovers, including skilled dog trappers, transporters, volunteers, and foster families, the morning's hard work paid off - momma and her little litter were placed into their foster home by noon. We quickly learned that momma was not feeling well, so that same day the newly rescued family went straight to the vet. Mom received extensive diagnostics that included labwork and abdominal x-rays and got the all clear. All she needed was food, water, rest and safety. This once starving, petrified momma is proving to be the best mother in the world and is doing wonderfully to keep five puppies fed and happy. We have named the momma "Dove" after one of her compassionate rescuers and are awaiting the special names that the foster mom will choose for her five puppies! There are 2 girls and 3 boys. 🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶

Any donations beyond Dove and her puppies' needs will go towards mounting veterinary bills for our other pups!

With our focus on rural areas in North and South Carolina, where shelters are overflowing with abandoned dogs waiting to find rescue, our network of Underhound volunteers work hard to prevent undeserved deaths, see that medical, emotional, and behavioral needs are tended to, and provide transportation as well as a loving foster family to the pups on their journey to finding their forever homes! Many of our dogs find their home in Maine, where we have a network of volunteers, foster and adoptive homes just waiting to welcome these pups with open arms.
