You don’t have to go far (from your house or in distance), you don’t have to be around other people, you don’t even have to go fast…. Just get out there and pick up trash! April 25th is World Plogging Day. Plogging is a combination of jogging while picking up litter (Swedish: plocka upp). It started as an organized activity in Sweden around 2016 and spread to other countries in 2018, following increased concern about plastic pollution. This year, we are holding our second annual COVID-friendly plogging fundraiser, where people around the country can plog in their own neighborhoods, and tag us on social media in their photos. This is an effort to raise awareness about plastic pollution, clean up our neighborhoods, and fundraise for ERICD. This year, you can also choose to plog with NRICD, our partner conservation district that serves Providence County, RI. If you plog with NRICD you'll be eligible for prizes in the same categories, but all prizes will be either from, or will be certificates to, local Providence County businesses. The board will vote for the best photos for the following categories: 1) best plog/plack selfie, 2) most creative repurpose, 3) most trash collected 4) most interesting find 5) plog with your dog, 6) the Ashley Gutermuth (Most days plogged in April), 7) team fundraiser*. Prizes will be awarded to a winner of each category, donated by various eco-conscious businesses. *more details on website https://jfreedmanericd.wixsite.com/plog
