All proceeds directly benefit Blue Bear's Mission Bay classes, where we offer high-quality FREE music education to the children of Mercy Housing and the other affordable housing communities in the neighborhood.

What is a ROCK-A-THON?!
Join Blue Bear as we spend time playing (or appreciating!) music and asking our friends to sponsor us in our endeavors, all in support of Blue Bear’s free music programs for kids.

During the month of April, we will commit to “Rocking Out” every day. (Or, at least once per day, 5 days per week for all 4 weeks.) And what is Rocking Out, you ask? It is spending some dedicated time praccticing or immersing ourselves in music.

How does this benefit Blue Bear?
Funds raised during Rock-a-thon 2026 will support the free music programs at Blue Bear’s Mission Bay campus. Mission Bay represents Blue Bear's powerful blend of sustainability and service. Here 50% of all programming is offered free to children and families living in nearby affordable housing communities.

In 2025 alone, Blue Bear provided 538 free music lessons to neighborhood kids, giving them the opportunity to discover creativity, confidence, and connection through music.When you join the Rock-a-thon, every song you practice, play, or listen to helps make these opportunities possible.Together, we can bring the joy and power of music to even more young musicians.

Then you just play! Once a day, five times a week for four weeks, you can. . .
- Practice your musical instrument (you know you've been meaning to.)
- Go out and listen to some live music (an arena show, a jazz club, a BART busker, it all counts!)
- Learn (take part of Dr. Savage's Musicology class, “Music, Culture and Ideas”)
- Appreciate (Revisit a favorite album or artist. Do they still hold up? Why?)
- Make something up! Just commit to enriching your life through music 20 times during the month of March.

How does this benefit Blue Bear?
Rockers will ask their friends, families and fans to sponsor them for every hour practiced.

$0.50 per practice = $10 Covers instruments like egg shakers for a Little Bears class
$2.50 per practice = $50 Helps provide supplies and instruments for group classes
$5 per practice = $100 Helps fund a full session of free music classes for kids in Mission Bay
$10 per practice = $200 Supports multiple weeks of free instruction for a young student
$25 per practice = $500 Helps bring an entire class series to children in affordable housing communities

To cap off the Rock-a-thon, we’ll be hosting a rockin’ live celebration in our very own Hall at Blue Bear HQ at Fort Mason Center. It’s our chance to come together as a community, celebrate a month of music, and cheer on everyone who took part.

All Rockers are invited to perform, so bring whatever you worked on during the month! Whether it’s a favorite song, a new riff, a DJ mix, or just a few chords you’re proud of, we’d love to hear it.

Admission is free, and family and friends are warmly invited to join the fun. Come perform, listen, and celebrate the amazing community that makes Blue Bear so special.
