We are painting hope for mothers who have experienced infant loss at zero cost to mom.

A business was born shortly after my first baby in 2012: I painted my own baby's ultrasound portrait and soon after launched RubySue Portraits (named after my maternal and paternal grandmothers). I have since painted hundreds of ultrasounds to capture the first image that a mother has of her child, and many of those paintings hang in nurseries besides a healthy baby. However, that is not everyone's story...

So many of the portraits I paint are actually the only image a mother has of her child. Up to one-in-four babies pass away before birth or in early infancy, and I consider it a deep honor to paint these babies that are lost too soon. These portraits have proved to be an important marker for many mothers in their journey of healing. However, I have noticed that it's not usually the grieving mothers that are purchasing their baby's portrait: these particular paintings are usually gifted by family or close friends. Either way, these paintings can be a sacred treasure in a mother's mourning and healing journey of loss.

Pregnancy/infancy loss has not been part of my own journey as a mother, but it has been for so many women around me. As so many of you know, those who experience miscarriage or loss don't often share their loss publicy; instead mothers oftentimes struggle in a lonely silence. I want to help these mommas feel seen and understood in this painful season with an ultrasound portrait and a village to support them during this difficult time.

I will keep my business going as it has for the last ten years, but I also want to begin offering paintings to at least 120 mothers of loss at no cost to the mom. When these mothers order a painting, she will also get the encouragement that someone is thinking of/praying for her. The people who sponsor these paintings will receive an email when their painting is shipped to the mother so that they can pray for her as she receives her gift (no personal contact information will be shared). These paintings are deeply meaningful, but it is even more powerful when it comes with the knowledge that someone out there is thinking of/praying for them. We are never alone!

This year I want to provide ultrasound paintings to at least 120 mothers who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss at no cost to them. I also want to let every mother know that someone cares enough about her and her lost child that a stranger was willing to provide this gift to her.
