THE JOURNEY:

Lewis Duffie and Josiah Umezurike are two exceptionally talented IT (Cybersecurity and software professionals) with collective experience of 40 years in the industry. They notice the challenges they faced in the industry over the years and recognized what it means for others who share similar backgrounds. Armed with the rude awakening of the industry's atttude and a sense of urgency they went out to build Each1Teach1 Tech an EdTech non-profit (501(c) 3 private charity to provide the tools and resources needed by the underserved communities to remain gainfully employed in STEM especially Cybersecurity and AI. They were the first to realize the need for an alternative ideas and shift from the conventional learning styles in Cybersecurity.

INFORMATION GATHERING:

To create something meaningful, impactful and unique they needed data. They collected data form the department of labor based on age, employment, average income per family. To learn the needs in these communities, they engaged in community outreach, interviewed many students/non-students. These groups had all kinds of degrees, certification and diplomas including Masters' degree with no success in landing a job in the IT field. The dip found many child proteges and adults : This allowed them to reach to the conclusion that no group should be left behind. The point is that talents are found in hardship as much as the innovation that comes with talents.

WHY WE BUILT SECURITY OPERATIONS CENTER:

It was heart breaking to both Lewis and Josiah to learn the plight of individual in these communities as far as not getting the jobs they qualified for according to their degrees and certifications because they cannot scale the interviews since managers are looking for those who can do the job on the first day at work. Yes! there could be other reasons but this one stood out to them. We surmised that if the motivated ones are provided the on-the-job platform then they can be prepared. NO NEED TO SPEND WITHOUT A CLEAR PATH TO EMPLOYMENT:

According to Lewis and Josiah the group they serve spends so much money on videos and certifications which they believe are necessary for them to get the job. They are not aware that the ideas of the 10 years ago do not apply anymore concerning certifications and formal education. There is a shift towards what you can do that is relatable to the job in question: Cybersecurity security operation center (SOC) Level I/II does not require any loan and none have to break the bank to become competent. The reference given to SOC analyst Level I, is because it is the usual lowest barrier to entry point for cybersecurity entrants.

This requires on-the-job training for the individual interested without the financial resource to reach mastery need to obtain the job.- You will need 500 to 1000 hours in the job to amass the wealth of practical knowledge needed to get a job as a security analyst in the blue team. This means that a learner must be working and learning through experiencing the real job.💯

The biggest challenge is not just lacking the knowledge. We find that putting the knowledge into practical use prepares the individual learner to act on the knowledge with less hassles. This is where Each1Teach1 Tech comes in, with the on-the-job training (OJT), originally a part of registered apprenticeship style program.

WHERE WE ARE TODAY:

Our learners today are doing the job functions right there in the SOC environment; therefore, they don't think unnecessarily hard about anything: Almost effortlessly they are accomplishing the task just like tying ones shoe laces.- They are smart. We have ten (13) graduates ready for work and three (3) already working. We have also put a book out to kindle the spirit of followership and membership amongst peers: Anyone's dream could come to past even when it could be a tough journey. THE CLIMAX:

This is the result of on-the-job training (OJT) in a production security operation center (SOC) environment. -Obtaining the job you are trained for and keeping it. Not having the theoretical knowledge is terrible.
