Our initiative, the Gullah Geechee Ancestral Garden, aims to create a dedicated space at Riverfront Park and other "sites of memory" in Charleston, SC, where the stories, struggles, and contributions of the Gullah Geechee community can be remembered and celebrated.

Why This Matters: The Gullah Geechee people have a profound legacy that has shaped the cultural landscape of the Lowcountry and beyond. Yet, our stories are often overlooked and underrepresented. Our story is often started as descendants of slaves instead of descendants of scientist. By establishing this memorial garden, we are creating a place for reflection, education, and community connection a place where the past is honored and the future is inspired.
