Boys To Men Texas | Houston - Fall 2024 Semester Campaign
For the 2023-2024 school year, we provide mentoring support for 100 middle school boys aged 13-17.
OUR MISSION
Being a father-deprived teenage boy is far from easy - As our world becomes more disconnected, teen boys are having to figure out how to navigate life without the support and encouragement of healthy male role models.
Boys To Men Texas (Houston) supports adolescent boys through community mentoring circles—empowering them to grow in ways that promote self- reflection, positive thinking, and self-accountability.
Our site-based group mentoring circles led by a team of volunteer mentors who model integrity, accountability, compassion, and respect - Our mentoring circles are led by a senior mentor/facilitator to promote a sense of equality amongst both boys and men.
OUR METHODOLOGY
Every week, boys are empowered to set their own rules and agreements for behavior within the group - Our mentors do not teach, lecture or tell boys what to do. Instead, they listen, share their own stories, provide encouragement and, most importantly, accountability for the boys.
Through group mentoring, music therapy, summer programs, community based enrichment activities, and Adventure Weekend retreats, we are committed to supporting every young man’s journey towards healthy manhood.
OUR LOCATIONS
We currently deliver our program to 100 teen boys at Yes Prep Northside, Yes Prep East End, and Yes Prep Southwest. Additionally, Edison Middle School and Herod Elementary School are on our waiting list for expansion.
OUR IMPACT
As a counselor to almost five hundred students I was struggling to meet their rising needs, in particular my middle school boys. They seemed lost, out of control, and in crisis, and I struggled to reach them. When I found out about Boys to Men, it was a godsend. I’m so thrilled to have a safe space for my students where they can talk about things that matter to them and receive the support they need!

86% of students said Boys to Men helps them feel safe.

78% of students said that Boys to Men has helped them go to school more often.
OUR SUCCESS PLAN
As with many volunteer organizations, we have been critically affected by the pandemic. However, as of April 2024, we are seeing a significant increase in people reaching out to offer their time, talents, and treasure to support us in our mission.
We continue to take critical actions toward long-term sustainability:
New Mentors - We currently are reaching out to 37 new mentor candidates and are starting the vetting and onboarding process, to be ready for Summer and Fall 2024.
New Executive Director - We have hired a new Executive Director—Patrick Harrington- Patrick brings over 40 years of business experience to BTMTX. His organizational, financial and management skills will help BTMTX grow and contribute to more young teenage boys.
Budgeting for Sustainability and Growth - In order to have a sustainable program, our expenses are approximately $13,000 monthly.
Partnered with Boys To Men USA—who have graciously offered technical, strategic, and moral support.
Technical Upgrades - We have corrected technical issues with our website and email systems — we apologize if we have been out of communication with those who have used our contact form recently and didn’t receive follow up.
OUR CHALLENGES
Making operations sustainable - Our greatest challenge is making our operations sustainable. We currently support 100 boys across 5 schools, and are looking to immediately expand to 2 additional schools.
Our minimal but critical expenses include: staffing, insurance, training, transportation, and systems support. In order to have a sustainable program, our expenses are approximately $13,000 monthly.
New Mentors Needed - Delivering our programs requires people who have done their own inner work. We are looking for people who are successful in life who have capacity to share their time and experience, but also who are on a lifelong quest of self-development, self-improvement, and self-discovery.

OUR HISTORY
When Boys to Men Mentoring was first founded over 25 years ago in San Diego, California, it was the devastating Columbine shootings that inspired founders Craig McClain, Herb Sigurdson, and Joe Sigurdson to brainstorm ways to meaningfully reach out to the father-deprived teenage boys of their community who they felt were in need of positive male mentorship in their lives.
JOIN US TO CREATE A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE FOR BTM TX
One of the most significant lessons we hope the boys learn from us is to know when to ask for help. Today, we are modeling that same behavior and asking you for your help.
We at BTM TX are not professional fundraisers; we are just a group of men trying to make a difference in our community.
Please consider making a contribution to Boys To Men Texas (Houston) to help father-deprived teen boys become emotionally and socially mature and secure young men.
If you can, please consider making a monthly contribution of $50, $75, or $100—it makes a world of difference.
Thank you for your continued support.
