CHEER is a holistic nonprofit that serves the Long Branch and Takoma Park communities. Our programs focus on four key areas. These areas include health, housing, gardening, and youth development. Our programs are what the community is asking for because community empowering community is who we are! Many of our staff live in either Long Branch or Takoma Park. So, this is their home, too.

CHEER empowers community members to become leaders. One example is “Maria,” originally from El Salvador, who has lived in the US for over 20 years. She engaged with CHEER through a group for mothers at Rolling Terrace Elementary School, where she gained healthcare access and joined the leadership development team, Conexo. Maria became active in her school’s PTA, advocating for improvements and volunteering with organizations like CHEER, CASA de Maryland, and the Montgomery County Police Department. Now, she is pursuing certification as a community health worker while interning with CHEER and studying English at Montgomery College.
