Give Hope & Help to Parents Who Have Lost A Child with Gemma's Hope

Wheeling in Comfort

Every parent that finds themselves in the hospital with empty arms after the loss of their precious baby deserves to hear "You are loved, and you are not alone."  One of the ways we want to help share this message is by offering them free books, support resources, and memory making materials so that hospitals are equipped for these last moments between family and baby.  No matter what their journey looks like when they go home, at least they will be able to feel some tangible love through others' donations: You are loved, and you are not alone.

Our main project is donating "Bereavement Book Carts" to local hospitals for easy access for L&D and NICU nurses & staff to roll into a room whenever it's needed.  Nurses feel more equipped to handle an already sensitive situation.  Parents who are grieving the loss of their child(ren) are able to take home any book(s) and grief resource links they feel they need, such as a flyer from the Mother's Milk Bank by WakeMed on how to pump breastmilk after a loss, or a brochure about KinderMourn counseling programs and services.  There are also books for young siblings that explains the grief of losing a sibling, teddy bears to snuggle and remember baby by, and other keepsake materials like little jars to store locks of baby's hair.  Everything on the carts are 100% free to families, but we encourage people to "pay it forward" if they can to keep things sustainable.  For perspective, books cost an average of $10 each, and a complete keepsake box with a teddy bear and all supplies is close to $50 for each baby lost.  It costs anywhere from $150-$1,000 to bring these supplies to hospitals for a year, depending on their size.

As of today, we have 25 of these carts in 23 hospitals in North Carolina, Virginia, Delaware with 10 new carts slated before the end of April 2025!

We rely on public donor support and local business partnerships to bring this mission to life.  We are extremely proud that Gemma's Hope is a 100% volunteer run 501(c)3 nonprofit, which means less than 10% of our total budget is operating costs - the rest goes directly towards bringing more resources to families and hospitals.

Your donation is very important to us.  We hope you will consider donating to this cause to help bring parents hope during their darkest hours.
