Meet Kere

Kere has been incarcerated for eight years. His daughter is 11, and one of his favorite memories is how she used to tease him at night on the way home, always asking about McDonald’s. “She’s my best friend,” he says. “My number one girl, my supporter — she helps me get through this.”

When Kere first heard about the Father-Daughter Dance, he felt relief. “I never got the chance to experience it on the outside, so this feels like a second chance,” he says. Wearing a suit for the first time gives him a sense of success and purpose. What excites him most is the intimacy of the moment. “Visits are always divided with siblings and other people around,” Kere explains. “This will just be me and her — elevating emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. I want her to never forget it.”
