For adults with disabilities, an independent life, full of possibilities does not come as easily. So, when we visited the premises of MyPossibilities, we were amazed at the amount of work being done for people with disabilities, to ensure that they looked at art beyond just being therapy.
My Possibilities is a 501(c)(3) for cause organization serving adults with disabilities such as Down Syndrome, Autism, Asperger’s, Prader-Willi, head injuries, and more. My Possibilities is the first full-day, a full-year educational program of its kind in Collin County.
Every student at the educational institution was engrossed and focussed on their masterpiece for an upcoming visual arts gallery. With the Create Program, HIPsters (Hugely Important People) can acquire skills that can prop them up with independence and self-respect, in an otherwise competitive world, by providing them a safe space to learn and express themselves.
Texas has historically ranked at the lower rung when it comes to investing in providing inclusive educational support for people with disabilities, with only 6% of those with intellectual disabilities, receiving a service to help them find or keep a job in the community, against the average of ~20%
We. Want. To. Change. That.
At Garage Arts Project, we strive toward something similar — building a safe, inclusive space that fosters collaboration, facilitate artistic expression, and bridge cultures. For our flagship event, Bridges ‘22 — A Performing Arts Collaboration Festival, the opening act will feature HIPsters with their art.
Art can stir strong emotions and has a profound impact on how we express ourselves. And My Possibilities, along with Garage Arts Project, works towards tapping this impact to support their HIPsters with their elective in Performing and Visual Arts.
The proceeds from Bridges ‘22 will go to My Possibilities. That means the funds we raise through Bridges will be matched as a donation to this charity. And the donation will be for their Create Program which provides an opportunity for students to engage in both individual creativity as well as group performances.
