In January 2022, Ridgefield mom Brittney Richardson launched Muse Squad, her club-based 501(c)(3) creative writing program for children and teens, after years of planning and groundwork. Miss Brittney has a BA in English and MFA in Fiction, and was immediately struck by the lack of extracurricular creative writing opportunities available to local students after moving to the area with her family. She determinedly set out to create an environment where literary techniques and strategies for generating inspiration, often taught in college writing programs, could be made accessible to young writers in a fun and welcoming way. A few years down the road, Muse Squad has grown to include weekend creative writing workshops and week-long summer camps, and its events and offerings have spread to several towns across Connecticut, as well as into New York.
Unfortunately, the costs of running such a widespread program are high, and as the number of events and offerings increase, so too do the operating costs necessary to sustain them. We are dedicated to keeping tuition rates low to make our workshops and camps accessible to as many young writers as possible, but this goal cannot be sustained without the help of generous donors like you. As the program expands, we also hope to grow our team of instructors by bringing on MFA graduates and teachers, as well as further develop Muse Squad’s college internship program and create new leadership opportunities for high school students by summer 2025. This too, cannot be accomplished without your help and your firm dedication to Muse Squad’s mission. These young writers have so much enthusiasm and potential, but without the kindness of donors like you, they would not have the tools or the support necessary to explore them. Thank you for being the heroes of their story, and for creating a brighter world for our students.
