Scurry County Museum behind WTC Quanah Parker Statue
What is History?
History is the impact a person, group of people or object had. In fact, you are making history right now! Your photos, jewelry, high school jacket, the quilt your mother-in-law made, or wedding dress could be an artifact. At Scurry County Museum we value everything from high school yearbooks to veteran uniforms to that photograph that won first place at the county art show. History is not only the big things but it is those treasured moments that make you smile every time you think about them.
Remember those Lota' Burger burgers and fries?
Recall circling the square and riding the drag for hours looking for that certain person?
Recollect ballgames, parades, proms, theater, band, choir, that favorite teacher, cutting up with friends?
How about watching your kids grow up, attend church, or enjoy a beautiful West Texas sunset?
For the past year, we have been working to recover from the effects Covid had on our institution. We are back in the community connecting and gathering history. Our biggest project has been working to digitalize our collection, and our community's stories, and work to make it accessible to everyone at any time. Visit our Website or Youtube to listen to our members of our community share their history. To continue to preserve and digitalize history, we need state-of-the-art equipment and staff members to focus on this task. Our goal is to have our entire collection of over 16,000 artifacts photographed, videoed, and scanned into an online database available 24/7 through our website by 2023. This is important because technology has become a core part of our society. As it evolves and changes so must museums and research institutions or history will be lost forever.
Thank you, from all of us.
