Since opening our doors in 2012, Nutmeg has performed 44,024 spay/neuter surgeries to stop overpopulation for cats and dogs. Of these, 3,970 were feral cats, and 3,625 were Pit Bulls, both populations that strain our already burdened animal shelters. Surgery at our clinic is at reduced rates to all clients, and we also accept state vouchers for payment. Perhaps our most impactful contribution is to the companion animals living within our underserved and impoverished households. We provide our services free of charge for these companion dogs and cats.

Nutmeg hosts the sole Pets for Life (PFL) program in CT, a mentorship with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). Through this program, Nutmeg supports two marginalized zip codes in Bridgeport, the largest city in CT. The Bridgeport/Norwalk region is the nation's 10th most unequal metro area by income. Since the start of the PFL outreach program in 2018, we have served over 2,133 individual pets belonging to 914 families and given more than 8,000 medications, services, and other supplies at no cost to families. Services include free spay/neuter for cats and dogs, vaccines, parasite treatment, food, and transportation to our clinic. These families do not otherwise have access to veterinary care, and many of these animals had never seen a veterinarian.
