We’ll get right to the point - if Project Restore Us can raise an additional $5,000 this week we will be able to provide 15 tons of rice, beans, and maseca to our neighbors in Chinatown, Allston, Roxbury, East Boston, Dorchester, and Mattapan.

Over the past 4 weeks, Project Restore Us delivered 114,000 pounds of rice, beans, and masa to 8 community organizations that collectively serve 3,000 local families. These community partners include: Brazilian Worker Center in Allston, Chinatown Main Streets, Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative in Roxbury, East Boston Main Streets, Maverick Landing, Community Services in East Boston, The Cape Verdean Association in Dorchester, The Immigrant Family Services Institute in Mattapan, and The Urban Guild in Dorchester.

These prior deliveries have been made possible through grant funding from the City of Boston. Thankfully, the city has secured additional funding to continue these staple good deliveries in May. However, we are left with a two week gap in which we do not have the funding to provide essential staples to 3,000 families in need.

Leveraging Project Restore Us’ restaurant wholesale supply chains and collective bargaining power, we obtain high quality grains and legumes at an average of $0.86 per pound. It will cost $25,000 to fill one week of this essential grocery gap, and we’ve already acquired $20,000 of the needed funding.

We have the necessary community partnership and the delivery infrastructure to feed these families next week. The final piece we need to make these deliveries happen is $5,000 by this Saturday.

At the beginning of the pandemic, Chef Tracy Chang of PAGU started Off Their Plate to feed the healthcare community amidst the first COVID-19 surge. Meanwhile, Tracy and Irene Li of Mei Mei prioritized public safety and shut down indoor dining. While restaurants have been suffering throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, food insecurity has also doubled. Realizing grocery delivery is a safe way for restaurants to make money while helping their community, Project Restore Us was born.
