As a 4th generation San Franciscan and the granddaughter of William J. Gallagher, proprietor of Woodlawn Stables on Grove Street in 1906 I have a special interest in this presentation. On May 2, 1906 the Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution naming the Woodlawn Stables as the place to which "All persons having in their possession horses and buggies or vehicles not belonging to them must deliver the same within forty-eight (48) hours to the Woodlawn Stables, Wm J Gallagher, Proprietor, situate on Grove St. between Laguna and Buchanan, in this city and county; otherwise they will be prosecuted under the laws governing the matter." Grandpa did his part to help bring order to the chaos. An unsung hero - like so many others.
