Puerto Rico Bound!

Our 7th graders are headed to Puerto Rico to help the community rebuild. You can be a part of it!

In September of 2017, Hurricane Maria tore through the Caribbean, killing more than 3000 people and causing more than $91 billion in damage to Dominica, St Croix, and Puerto Rico. This past September, almost five years to the day that Maria struck Puerto Rico and with much of their infrastructure not fully recovered, Hurricane Fiona brought torrential rains and flash flooding to the island. Hospitals have not been rebuilt, power and water are unreliable at best, and thousands of people remain in “temporary” housing after five years.

Our 7th grade class has the opportunity to help do something about it. In May, they will embark on a six-day journey of cultural immersion and service to work side by side with the people of Puerto Rico to help rebuild the homes destroyed by Hurricane Maria. Our goal for this trip is that students return with:

A passion for service

A deeper, more intimate understanding of social-economic, political, and cultural inequalities

Mutual understanding and respect for the people with whom they worked

An appreciation for other cultures and the global perspective travel can provide

Our school is covering a significant portion of the cost of this transformational experience, but we still need to raise approximately $15,000 toward the trip. We are so grateful for the way our community has come together to support this goal with Friday burrito and pizza lunches and cider purchases at the Festival of Lights. We also gratefully accept donations toward the trip made through this page.

Thank you for helping make this unique service opportunity a reality for our students.
