Lorna and Brady's Story

I’ve always wanted to be a runner who could handle the challenge of this course. This year seems to be the year for me to give it a try. While the effort feels a bit daunting, my heart is constantly pulled toward young people enduring cancer when they should be living life to the fullest. Sam should be here to cheer me on and these kids we run for should be celebrating a cancer free life. Too often, their struggle persists and I am continually compelled to do something about it. So here I am, taking on the very run I created in 2020, and I hope to raise the funds we need to keep battling these awful cancers for the kids who have to endure them.

I am running in honor of Brady.

A note from Brady's parents:

Brady is such an amazing kid.  He is kind, compassionate, funny, artistic, musical and all around a wonderful loving brother and friend to many.  He loves to snowboard, mountain bike, surf and swim in any lake, river & especially the ocean.  He is currently an IB student at Bend Senior High School.

Brady was diagnosed with diffuse pediatric high grade glioma in July of 2023 and immediately underwent proton radiation with adjuvant chemotherapy.  He is currently treating at OHSU doing maintenance chemotherapy and active monitoring.  He still struggles with periodic focal seizures and chemo cycles obviously bring the nausea/fatigue but when he is feeling well he loves music, being out in nature and spending time with his family.  Brayden’s bravery and fight is uniquely impressive in our family as his uncle died from a high grade/glioblastoma type tumor.

Here's what Brady's parents would like you to know about childhood cancer: "All childhood cancers are destructive and horrifying, and sadly the treatment options have not improved much over the years, especially for higher grade tumors."
