Dr. Betty L. Wilson is a licensed social worker and Assistant Professor in the College of Social Work at the University of South Carolina, where her research examines the mental health impacts of police violence in Black communities through trauma-informed, community-centered, and intersectional frameworks. Her work emphasizes culturally-informed interventions, civic action, and justice-specific strategies to address policing disparities and promote resilience. Dr. Wilson has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Breakthrough Graduate Scholar Award from the University of South Carolina, the Southern Regional Education Board Dissertation Fellowship, and the Doctoral Student Award from the University of South Carolina’s College of Social Work. She has published over 20 peer-reviewed journal articles, presented nationally and internationally, secured research funding, and has been invited to speak on guest panels addressing police-community relations, racial trauma, healing, and health equity.
