Justice for Incarcerated Survivors: 10 Years of Impact

For the past 10 years, GCADV’s Justice for Incarcerated Survivors (JFIS) program has stood with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault who are incarcerated, people too often overlooked, punished, or silenced because of the violence they endured.

JFIS was created to ensure that incarceration does not erase a survivor’s right to safety, dignity, advocacy, or healing. For a decade, the program has provided trauma-informed support, legal advocacy, safety planning, and reentry assistance to survivors navigating abuse, criminalization, and confinement.

This work recognizes a critical truth: many survivors are criminalized as a result of their abuse. JFIS challenges these injustices while walking alongside survivors—inside facilities and as they return to their communities, helping them reclaim voice, agency, and hope.
