CASA in the Heart of Texas is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing trained community volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children in Brown, Mills, and Comanche Counties.

CASA is part of a national volunteer movement that began in 1977, when the late Judge David Soukup of Seattle realized he needed more information to make the best decisions for the children in his courtroom. He asked community volunteers to serve as a “voice in court” for these children. These Court Appointed Special Advocates® (CASAs) became essential in providing judges with detailed, fact-based reports that helped ensure children were placed in safe, loving, and permanent homes as quickly as possible.

That idea sparked a national movement. Today, there are nearly 1,000 CASA programs across the country, including 74 in Texas, all committed to giving children a voice during some of the most difficult times in their lives.

Since opening our doors to Brown County in 2001, Mills County in 2002, and Comanche County in 2003, CASA in the Heart of Texas has worked hand-in-hand with our courts, child welfare professionals, and local communities to advocate for the best interests of the most vulnerable children.

We are governed by a volunteer board of directors and are proud members of both National CASA and Texas CASA. Our team of staff and trained advocates work together to ensure every child has a safe and permanent home, and every voice is heard.
