Access to The Tool Library is how people make safe, functional, and beautiful homes. We’re the machinery behind motivated neighbors transforming their blocks. The Tool Library is infrastructure for our collective desire to build the world we want to live in.

Owning 2626 Main Street is how we continue to share that world for generations to come.

After more than doubling membership to 1,400 members and growing our inventory to 4,800 tools since 2020, The Tool Library was in desperate need of more space. After an exhaustive multi-year search, The Tool Library successfully completed a move to 2626 Main Street in June 2023.

The Tool Library’s new home at 2626 Main Street is four times the size of our previous space, located directly across the street from the Amherst Metro Station, has a large on-site parking lot, includes a full basement, and residential and office space on the second floor. This strategic move is more than just a simple real estate transaction, it has profound implications for our organization’s financial health, programmatic effectiveness, community engagement, and the ability to scale our existing impacts across Western New York.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of donors, foundations and the Western New York community, we’re halfway to our goal! Launched in April 2024, Phase 1 of the capital campaign reached its $500,000 goal in September 2024. Since the campaign launch, membership has also surged from 1,421 to 1,900 members—marking the largest single-year growth in the organization’s history. Now, we’re turning our focus to Phase 2 of the campaign, with a goal of raising another $500,000 for critical renovations and building enhancements to bring The Tool Library’s full vision to life.

This includes repairing and restoring the building’s historic storefront, new exterior signage, energy efficiency improvements, updating and relocating major building systems, and interior demolition and reconfiguration of available space.

2626 Main Street provides us with the firm foundation we need to continue building a sharing economy that focuses on meeting people’s basic needs, reducing inequality, and improving quality of life for all in WNY.

This is more than just a building. This is our home. We are currently seeking a mix of sources - private philanthropy, public funds, corporate partnerships, and individual donors to make our vision a reality.
