Cooper Literacy Program

At the Club, more than half of our members come from families where English is not their first language. With this in mind, Martin and Barbara Cooper helped to establish the BGCWV Cooper Literacy Program, a comprehensive approach to helping children of the West Valley, ages 6-17, become proficient in reading and to see reading as a tool to a better life and an enjoyable pastime. The BGCWV Cooper Literacy Program is the Club’s umbrella literacy program, which runs year-round. Funds from this program help to support our reading program mentors' payroll, support the Club to acquire new books for youth reading Clubs across our 13 sites, and help to grow the Cooper Endowment to ensure these programs continue as a part of Martin and Barbara Cooper's legacy for kids in the San Fernando Valley.
