Hello, my name is Annika Sauser and I feel very grateful to have been accepted for this masterclass. When I first got the opportunity to participate in a choral masterclass in British Columbia with Geoffrey Boers several years ago, I completely fell in love with choral music and the vulnerability of choral conducting, as well as the beauty and connectedness that this art form can bring to our lives. I knew that it was something that I had a burning passion to pursue and learn more about. I completed my Bachelor of Music with a speciality in education from the University of Victoria in 2021, and since then I have been teaching music both in the schools and through the Victoria Conservatory of Music. I currently also direct a non-profit children's choir program in elementary schools across Victoria, with the goal of making music more accessible to populations of students who may not otherwise get a music education at their schools. I am quite interested in the intersection of music's ability to foster social and emotional development, particularly in young children. I have been so fortunate to participate in choral masterclasses such as the Sarteano choral conducting symposium and the the Podium conference choral masterclass. These experiences, have been immensely beneficial as it through getting the opportunity to conduct in front of a choir that allows us to grow as conductors, educators, and individuals. These masterclasses allow us to take the skills we have learned and bring them back to our communities, where we then endeavour to inspire other individuals and foster connection through musical experiences. These opportunities, however, wouldn't have been possible without the generous support of donors and others that have made grants and scholarships possible. As this experience requires travelling and staying in a different country, tuition, food, and lodging, I would be tremendously thankful for any support that you are able to contribute.
