LED Light Upgrades at City Platform Tennis Courts

Please donate to raise money to improve the lighting of the City of GP Platform Tennis Courts (next to Elworthy Field, by Waterloo & Neff). Funds are being handled through the City of Grosse Pointe Foundation. The City will remove the 20 year-old metal halide lights and install LED lights, dramatically improving visibility on-court during gameplay. Also, LED lights don't require 10 minutes to “cool down” if they accidentally turn off during gameplay...quick, someone hit the egg timer!

These platform tennis courts were refurbished and brought to the City over 20 years ago through a collaborative effort between players, philanthropy, and the City. Since then the courts have been heavily used and enjoyed by players from all over the Pointes. Although the City sells membership passes to offset the cost of running these courts, without this fundraiser the City does not have plans or funds to upgrade the current outdated, dim lights. It’s time for our paddle community to reconnect and support the ongoing improvement of these courts.

In addition to this lighting project, local players are engaged in an ongoing dialogue with the City to consider improvements to the online reservation system, improved court/screen maintenance, and other projects. Also, pickleball lines were recently added to both platform tennis courts, allowing for year-round use during the warmer months. This project is only the beginning!

Please note: LED lights are more direct than traditional fixtures, and the proposed LED lights produce LESS light dispersion/pollution than the current metal halide lights.
