January is National Mentoring Month, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Michigan is on a mission: recruit 30 men in 30 days so over 150 boys don’t have to keep waiting for a Big. We’re calling especially on Black men in Detroit and across Southeast Michigan, but all men are welcome. If you’ve been looking for community, legacy, or brotherhood, you can find it here by showing up for one young person.

A lot of guys count themselves out before they even start. So let’s clear a few things up:

You don’t need a lot of money.
Kids remember who showed up, not what you spent. Everyday stuff is perfect: hoops, games, food, conversation.
You don’t have to have it all figured out.
You don’t need all the answers or a flawless life. You need a willingness to listen, learn, and be consistent. We train you and back you up.
You don’t need endless free time.
Most Bigs give a few hours a month, worked around real jobs, real families, real schedules. It’s about showing up regularly, not being available 24/7.

Mentoring isn’t about being a superhero. It’s about being a steady presence. If you’re a man who cares about the next generation and the future of this community, this is your invitation.
