  • --In May, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed Senate Bill 18, which designates January 30 of each year as “Fred Korematsu Day.”
  • --In October, Dr. Korematsu testified virtually at the Massachusetts State House Committee meeting on the Joint Committee on State Administration and Regularity Oversight in support of House Bill H3119 designating Fred Korematsu Day of Civil Liberties and the Constitution on January 30 in perpetuity in Massachusetts. • --We produced a 20-minute documentary on the history of the role of the coram nobis cases in civil rights history which we debuted at our October celebration.
  • --On October 21, we held our dinner commemorating the 40th anniversary of the coram nobis cases! We were able to celebrate the coram nobis legal teams and judges, the Honorable Marilyn Hall Patel and the Honorable Mary Schroeder, and honor former US Solicitor General and our keynote speaker, Neal Katyal with our second Fred Korematsu Social Justice Award.
  • --We are pleased to be working for a fourth year with the Asian and Pacific Islander Health Forum (APIAHF) engaging AANHPI communities in COVID-19 and influenza vaccinations.
  • --One of our current projects is remastering and adding new interviews to our two-time Emmy-award-winning documentary to connect it to current events and make it available on mainstream platforms. Fred T. Korematsu was a national civil rights hero and his fight was a pivotal moment in civil rights history. You can stream his story here: Of Civil Wrongs and Rights film
  • --In 2024, we look forward to launching Phase 1 of the Korematsu Interpretive Center for Social Justice, a destination for educators, students, organizations, and the public seeking resources and experiences to deepen their knowledge of U.S. history, civil rights, and present-day examples of discrimination.
  • --For Americans who believe in democracy and social justice for all, this time of renewed racial reckoning, political divisiveness, and increased violence against Asian Americans elevates the need for inclusive civil rights education and civic engagement. The Fred T. Korematsu Institute (KI) is addressing this need with a new nationwide touring exhibit and community forums.
