We're $6,922 from our second milestone of $50,000 toward becoming 100% debt-free. (Total goal: $450,000 — see full progress below)

This is not a loan request — it's the opposite. Joliet Islamic Center already owes $450,000 in Qard Al Hasan (an interest-free loan taken to purchase our building). Your gift today goes directly toward paying that debt off, permanently and irreversibly. Nothing you give is repaid to you — it's a Sadaqah that erases masjid debt for good.

"Every dollar we send to loan payments is a dollar not spent on our children — on Quran school, on youth programs, on the future of this community." — Hafiz Aqib

Why This Matters Now

Joliet Islamic Center currently carries a $450,000 Qard Al Hasan balance on the masjid property — an interest-free loan that must be repaid in full. Every dollar we spend servicing this debt is a dollar not spent on the community: youth programs, Quran school, maintenance, and growth.

We're asking our community to come together and eliminate this debt — so that starting today, every future dollar goes toward serving worshippers instead of paying down the past.

"The mosques of Allah are only to be maintained by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day, establish prayer, give zakah, and fear none but Allah..." — Surah At-Tawbah 9:18

Every gift — $50, $100, $1,000, or more — brings us one step closer to being debt-free. This is Sadaqah Jariyah: a charity whose reward continues long after we're gone.

How Qard Al Hasan Works (FAQ)

Q: Is my donation a loan? Will it be repaid to me?
No. Your gift is a one-time, non-refundable Sadaqah (charitable donation). It goes directly toward paying off a loan the masjid already owes — you are helping retire the debt, not creating new debt.

Q: What is Qard Al Hasan, and why does the masjid owe $450,000?
Qard Al Hasan is an interest-free loan — permitted in Islam, unlike interest-bearing debt. When Joliet Islamic Center purchased its property, the community structured the financing as Qard Al Hasan rather than a conventional interest-based mortgage, in line with Islamic principles. That $450,000 is what remains owed on the building.

Q: Is there a minimum donation?
$20 minimum just to cover our marketing costs. Every amount, small or large, goes directly toward the balance.

Q: Can I set up a recurring monthly gift instead of a one-time donation?
Yes — select "Monthly" at checkout. Recurring gifts help us plan and pay down the balance predictably.

Q: How is the money being repaid, and how do I know it's going where it's supposed to?
Every dollar raised through this campaign is applied directly to the outstanding Qard Al Hasan balance. We post progress updates on this page with the current balance and amount raised.

Q: Who do we owe this money to?
The $450,000 balance is owed to two community sources, both of whom have asked to remain anonymous: $400,000 from an individual member of our community, and $50,000 from an organization that supported the masjid alongside them. Both loans were structured as formal, documented contracts — thoroughly reviewed by Darul Ifta and practicing Muftis to ensure full compliance with Islamic principles: interest-free, transparent terms, and a repayment structure appropriate for a masjid.

Q: Who can I talk to if I have questions before giving?
