Christmas in Honduras

Do something special this holiday season by signing up to sponsor Christmas for the children at New Life Children's Home.  New Life Children's Home is a non-profit organization that raises all its funds through organizations, churches, and individuals like you!  Our annual Christmas fundraiser provides all of our children, including those who live at the home, those in our transition home and those who are receiving scholarships to our school with something special for Christmas.  

As a part of New Life's Christmas fundraiser, you will be supporting more than 90 children. No gift is too small or too big! Each of the 91 children will receive clothes, shoes, special gifts and supplies. The children range from 5 years old to in their 20's, and their special gift requests reflect that. They're asking for coloring books, matchbox cars, jewelry and hair accessories, soccer balls, bookbags and extra clothes. 

What is New Life Children's Home: NLCH is a home that rescues children from severe poverty and/or abuse. Honduras doesn't have a foster system like the US, so when kids are taken from their homes by social services, they are placed in homes like New Life Children's Home.  In most cases, these children never return home to their family.  It is the home's duty to provide for and care for their mental, physical, social, and spiritual needs until they are old enough to live on their own. 

Because these children, like foster kids in the US, don't have support when it's time to move out on their own, we also have a transition home for young adults that provides college education, trade training, room, board, and various pathways to help children transition into adulthood.  

New Life also has a school for underprivileged youth in Jalaca, Honduras.  Many families cannot afford the books and uniforms required to attend even the public schools.  Therefore, many children are forced to work in the fields or for the family business with little to no education.  New Life Children's Home provides scholarships to our very own school which employs the teachers who provide them with an education. We are currently even helping some of these students transition in our college and career program.  

Each Christmas season, we ask all the kids for special items they wish for and with the help of many individuals just like yourself, we provide Christmas morning for the children of New Life. For most of our kids, these are the only new items they will receive all year. The children, much like our own, look forward to this with great anticipation.

This opportunity can be one that your children participate in and are able to follow the story of giving and receiving and bringing Joy- sending hand-written letters and photos down, seeing a video of the children opening their gifts and hearing a "Thank You" directly from the child. What a great way to teach the true meaning of Christmas!
