“Sharing our talent to benefit other children is so heartwarming and fulfilling!” ~ Meagan Lee and Kaitlyn Lee

MEAGAN AND KAITLYN’S STORY: In 2018, 10-year-old young pianist Meagan Lee was looking for ways to share her musical talent that would make a difference in her community and in the world. So she joined GMRF’s “Children Helping Children'' fundraising mission and initiated the annual Piano Solo Fundraising Concert. In the second year, her equally talented sister, cellist Kaitlyn Lee joined her to take the concert program to the next level with their beautiful cello and piano duets. Meagan and Kaitlyn’s wish is not only to raise funds for GMRF’s mission but also to raise much-needed awareness. They have proudly raised over $20,000 through their concerts since 2018! On behalf of the children we serve, we at GMRF are so grateful that the Lee's are part of our community.

MORE ON THE TALENTED MUSICIANS: Meagan Lee is a rising senior at Staten Island Academy and four-year recipient of the Winter William Scholarship. She has served in many leadership roles, including president of SIA’s chapter of “She’s The First,” a nonprofit organization to fight gender inequality in education, senior president for the Student Advisory Council, President of the Staten Island Academy Film Society, and President of GSA. Meagan is also the Concert Principal (plays the cello and the piano) in Staten Island Academy’s orchestra and has participated in many theater productions.

She is also a scholarship piano student in the Precollege Division at Manhattan School of Music. She has been on the “Dean’s List” for four consecutive years and is a recipient of the “Carl Owen Memorial Scholarship” and the “Rita and Morris Relson Scholarship,” awarded for her outstanding talent and academic achievements.

Meagan has won top prizes and awards in numerous international and national piano competitions, including Gershwin International Piano Competition, MSM Precollege Symphony Concerto Competition, International e-Piano Competition, MTNA NYS Junior Piano Competition, and many more. She made her concerto debut at age 10 performing with the College of Staten Island Orchestra, and performed in the “Catch A Rising Star” concert with the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra at age 15.

Kaitlyn Lee is a graduate of Stuyvesant High School. She is currently a rising senior at Cornell University majoring in biology and society on the pre-med track and has been on the “Dean’s List” for three consecutive years. She is an active writer for the Cornell Daily Sun and Healthcare Review at Cornell and serving as the treasurer.

A cellist in the Cornell University Symphony Orchestra, she has served as the fundraising co-chair in the orchestra, as well as the president of Therapy Thru Music. Kaitlyn is also very passionate about giving back to the community, and she has been volunteering at the Seaview Hospital Rehab Center & Home.

7th ANNUAL CONCERT: We hope you can join us on Sunday July 21st, 3:00 PM EST at New Dorp Moravian Church to help GMRF’s children receive much-needed medical treatment and prosthetics. This year's program consists of wonderful piano solos as well as cello-piano duets works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Moussorgsky, Rachmaninoff, Ravel and more. If you cannot attend the concert in person, a live-stream option is also available. Together, we can uplift these amazing children with hope for the future. ABOUT GMRF: The Global Medical Relief Fund (GMRF) was founded by Elissa Montanti in 1997 to bring hope to children who are missing or have lost the use of their limbs, have been severely burned, or are otherwise damaged due to the atrocities of war, natural disasters, accidents, illness or violence. GMRF partners with Shriners Hospitals for Children, Northwell Health, and other hospitals and private doctors who donate their time and professional services. GMRF welcomes the majority of children to the Dare to Dream House on Staten Island, where they and their parents/guardians have the opportunity to meet and bond with other families from around the world who are in similar circumstances. The combination of medical care and these unique, personal relationships has the power to wholly and positively change a child’s and their family’s life forever. To date, GMRF has helped over 400 children from 59 different countries with over 1800 medical visits. You have the power to help us help even more children!
