In the summer of 2024, River Valley Co-op workers, member-owners and community members launched a campaign to get the Co-op to de-shelve Israeli made and sourced products until Israel complies with international law. We hoped that the Co-op would be a winnable target in the struggle for Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions, and that we could begin to build an apartheid Free community here in Western MA.

Unfortunately the campaign faced harsh opposition from Co-op leadership, and our de-shelving proposal was rejected. In the crackdown that followed the launch of our campaign, workers were prohibited from wearing pins or buttons expressing support for or solidarity with Palestine. In January 2025, a worker was fired for non-compliance with the new dress code requirement. Several others have faced disciplinary action and risk being fired for their support for Palestinian rights and lives.

We are creating this fund to support workers who risk their employment by standing up for their values and beliefs. Many people fear taking a stand on this issue because they understand they could face material consequences. Let's help our community be brave and take risks in the effort to end Israeli apartheid and genocide.
